Made from traditionally floor malted barley, old faithful is a pale golden, aromatic and hoppy ale, the lightest and fruitiest of the Tirril Ales. Of the three carieties of English hops they use, it is liberally finished with Goldings for its refreshing aroma. The name is in honour of the "unfortunate Tourist of Helvellyn" Charles Gough, buried in Tirrill. Or rather his dog who stood guard by his scant remains (only identified by the name in his hat) for months after he had fallen from Striding Edge on the Mountain. Wordsworth did write a poem wondering what this noble hound survived on during all those months...
