High Cup Wines are produced at Townhead Farm and Winery, a new, small business which is attempting to diversify from the ubiquitous sheep farming in this attractive part of Cumbria. Townhead Farm is Cumbria’s only commercial vineyard and winery and produces a range of country and grape wines from fruit grown on the farm and in the local area.
Situated at the foot of the Pennines in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Townhead Farm enjoys outstanding views of the Lakeland Fells across the valley of the River Eden. It is located at the foot of the impressive U-shaped valley known as High Cup Gill which runs from High Cup Nick at its north-eastern end towards the Eden Valley.
A tangy sweet light red wine with a rich damson aroma and flavour. Suitable as a dessert or after-dinner drink. This wine is made from damsons from the Lyth Valley.
A dry red wine with a rich elderberry aroma and flavour. This medium-bodied wine has many of the health-giving properties of the elderberry. It goes well (cooking as well as eating!) with lamb, beef and Cumberland sausage.
A light, medium-dry, white wine, rich in elderflower aroma and flavour, with a hint of apple, giving it a delightful bouquet of summer hedgerows.
A zesty, medium, rosé wine, full of raspberry aroma and flavour.
